Love Pickle has launched their own range of homemade contemporary Indian pickles. Made from ripe tomatoes, fresh chillies, garlic, ginger, mustard oil and seeds plus a selection of carefully selected quality herbs and spices. There are four different varieties;

Mild – gentle hum of chilli and spice, perfect as a dip or marinade.

Medium –  a stronger flavour with a dash more heat

Hot – a more fiery spiced pickle

Extra hot- extremely fierce chilli and heat, not for the faint hearted!

Love Pickle kindly sent me a jar of their Mild pickle to sample.

When I opened the jar you are instantly hit by the sweet spiced scent of the tomatoes. The texture is coarse yet soft and not mushed to a paste. Chunks of tomatoes (with skins) and green chillies with flecks of spices and mustard seeds are mixed throughout. The pickle is thick but not drenched in oil unlike other branded pickles. It’s blood orange colour is vibrant, and tasted fruity, sweet and spicy. It reminded me of a sundried tomato tapenade  or tomato relish/puree I’ve eaten before, tangy spreadable but ripened with sweetness.

I was very impressed with how authentic Love Pickle tasted; a balanced condiment of spice to fruit, not too heavy on the mustard oil and chilli.  The heat of the spices and chillies, are quite delicate and give off a warming sensation. The tomato chilli combination was a fantastic change from the usual mango or lime. Eaten as a dip or alternative to ketchup or a salsa Love Pickle is a perfect served alongside naan bread or poppadoms

Michael Sohel, former Investment Bank Business Manager, created the range based on a family recipe to bring a unique, quality, Indian-style pickle to British mealtimes. He says: “The great thing about Lovepickle is that it’s so versatile – it can be eaten as a dip or be served as a condiment alongside Indian dishes. It tastes great with cheese and crackers, in sandwiches and with main courses such as meat and fish.”
Lovepickle Mild, Medium, Hot and Extra Hot is priced at £2.95 per jar. The product is made in the UK and does not contain any added colours, flavours or preservatives.
