Review of BBQ Whisky Beer, Wargrave Arms, London

BBQ WHISKY BEER are back! After a short stint in Shepherd’s Bush, Sam and the team are now hosting a residency at the Wargrave Arms Pub in Marylebone.


This is my second visit to BBQ Whisky Beer, I was so  impressed first time round I couldn’t wait to try out their new and improved menu.


The Wargrave Arms was bustling with local punter,  tall wooden stools and chill out leather sofas tucked in the corners gave the place a wonderful setting for a relaxed evening.  Beautiful stain glassed lamp shades hung fr0m the ceiling and roman candles light the tables.


The bar and walls were lined with dozens of whisky bottles; American, Japanese and English whiskies dedicated pages on the menu.


Being off the booze for lent  I went for a childhood fave of cream soda. Vanilla tones, creamy and sinfully sweet.


Dufftown Whiskey was oaky with musky tones, smooth yet strong.

The kitchen was very busy that night and as a “sorry to keep you waiting” the chefs sent out 2 buckets of sweet chilli chicken wings and legs with skins on! . Sweet & sour, sticky, spicy, crispy skins with a smokey BBQ flavour served with a tangy mild blue cheese dipping sauce. So moreish you don’t want to stop eating them.



Newly added BBQ Sticky ribs, BEST BBQ RIBS IN LONDON! smokey, sweet but tangy, charred and moist. Seriously delicious!


Introducing the superb beef short rib slider. Moist meat patty, in house made tomato relish, oozing melted cheese and moist rib created this tower slider. FANTASTIC


Dale’s fried chicken burger had a light crispy batter enclosing a moist fillet smothered with a creamy gooey jalapeño cheese and crunchy nachos.   Everything you love about trashy food in one burger, best chicken burger he’s ever had!.



The pulled pork bun was piled high with shredded succulent tender pork seasoned and smoked with a tangy yet slight sweetened marinade / sauce. Coarsely grated coleslaw not drowning in mayo topped off the pulled pork burger. The brioche bun was soft, lightly toasted, sweet and buttery with a glossy finish – perfect!



The Beef Royale burger was a very generous portion! The burger, a classic 7oz  meat patty with pulled pork. Firstly, was as big as it sounds and looked pretty impressive. The burger held well in the hand pretty much all the way through, though perhaps a little greasy but probably expected from so much meat. The coleslaw dressing had a good creamy texture went really well with the burger. Generally the seasoning was a little on the light side but the moistness of the meat made up for that.


The triple cooked chips were a little salty but cooked perfectly. Crispy and roughly coated with a fluffy potato centre.

W even managed to squeeze in a side of mac and cheese, tubes of macaroni pasta and mushrooms, immersed in a rich gooey mature cheese sauce with a grilled cheesy crust. Slightly salty but fantastic comfort food.


We couldn’t decide on which dessert, so Sam kindly sent over all three! First up was the Homemade Brownie with Peanut butter ice-cream.  Warm, light, gooey chewy centre, decadent dark chocolate brownie slices served with a nutty, buttery, smooth scoop of peanut butter ice-cream. Incredible!


A Banoffee Pie with a difference, a deconstructed pie with whipped cream, vanilla ice-cream  slices of banana with a digestive buttery crumb at the bottom. Very rich, indulgent and sinfully great. A toffee coated banana for garnish too.


And finally the famous cornflake icecream sundae has just been added back to the menu.  Creamy icecream made from steeped cornflakes for 24 hours. The corn flavoured milk is then churned to create a masterpiece of a dessert. With added whipped cream and chocolate sauce at the bottom this the king of desserts.


On the whole had a I had another great evening at BBQ WHISKY BEER,  delicious London burgers and authentic Southern  food and many whiskey choices to choose from for a fairly reasonable prices. Thank you again to Sam and his polite and attentive staff for a fun night out.
