Review of Vapiano, London

Situated just off the hustle and bustle of London’s Oxford Street is Vapiano, a restaurant that has taken the fresh casual style of Italian dining to a new level.

Vapiano is an innovative European concept serving made-to-order fire roasted pizzas, fresh, house-made pasta and hand tossed gourmet salads. An established concept with more than 30 worldwide locations and another 100 in development in the United States, Europe and the Middle East, Vapiano puts a new spin on the dining experience with its urban upscale Italian decor and its modern customer service.

What struck me was how busy it was – although it was dinner time! but the restaurant was rammed.

On arrival you are given menus and Vapiano card, Peter the manager kindly walked me through the restaurant and how it all works.

Starting off with their different stations of pasta, pizza, salad bar, anti pasti and the bar you pick what you want from your menu and go to the applicable station.

Everything is made fresh, on site and in front of you. Vapiano prides itself on having their very own pasta maker, churning out all types of pastas daily. Looks like a massive mince meater! very impressive.

The mayhem of the ordering stations reminded me of a school canteen, everyone lining up to be served piping hot food.

The dining areas are modest and coffee shop feel, cosy booths and sofas and wooden tables litter the middle section of the restaurant.

You have to wait slightly longer for pizza but time flies by, I ordered Toscana pizza; spicy Italian sausage, olives, fresh herbs, tomatoes, mozzarella. Thin crispy base decorated with fresh cherry tomatoes and rosemary, loaded with sausage circles, loaded with seasoning and flavour.

The Crudo pizza was fresh, crispy base, with generous toppings. Not sure how much more I have to say about a pizza! It was good though- as nice as any pizza I had in Venice.

Dessert was a light lemon and vanilla cheesecake, not heavy and creamy like the classic New York cheesecake but still smooth, milky and  zesty.

The miniature mascarpone and strawberries dessert was a delight! rich, creamy, sweet and the perfect portion after a heavy main course.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Vapiano, the modern dining concept is a fun, fast paced and a twist on fast healthy food. A definite must try for all Italian food lovers in London.
