Review of Outsider Tart Baking class

Back in July I was lucky enough to take part in a baking class headed by American bakery Outsider Tart in Chiswick.

Google + / Google Local London and co owner David ran the event giving us beginner bakers a chance to show off our skills with a whisk and flour to create whoopie pies and decorate cupcakes.

With the recipe in hand, chef’s hat on, ingredients and equiptment ready to go it was time to bake. My competitive alter ego came out in full force!

I carefully read through the recipe, measuring each ingredient whilst keeping a close eye on the competition – already seen someone adding too much red food colouring mwahahahah!.

Below the bakery is where the magic happens, a small kitchen that stocks every baker’s dream ingredients.  Endless bags of flour, sugars, cocoa, spices and sprinkles.

As every good baker knows you prep the dry ingredients first; flour, baking soda and cocoa.

Enough butter?!!

Cream the butter till lighter in colour and fluffy.

Grate in orange zest into the sugar to perfume and mix well.

The end result is chewy cookie sandwiched together with whipped cream filling. Delicious if I say so myself.

After a brilliant baking session it was time to get even more creative and decorate some cupcakes. Red, white and blue frosting and copious amounts of rainbow sprinkles.

A fantastic, intimate and fun baking class! David’s enthusiasm, patience, wit and passion for baking made the event an unforgettable one.
